Gamekeepers and the shooting community are often those most effected by, or witness to rural crime. We provide the eyes and ears of the countryside and often suffer the consequences of rural crime.
Poaching, vehicle thefts, illegal raves, vandalism, hare coursing and other crimes can all effect gamekeepers and shooters. The police are often accused of not doing enough; however, they are often under resourced. Also some rural crimes such as poaching are not seen as a priority. Gamekeepers and the shooting community must continue to make the police aware of crime ensuring they are recorded. By making sure the police receive accurate information and are made aware there is a problem, they will respond.
BASC is an active member of the Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime (PAW) a multi-agency body comprised of representatives of all the organisations actively involved in wildlife law enforcement such as the police. Its main objectives are to promote and support the enforcement of wildlife conservation legislation, particularly through assisting, advising and supporting Police Wildlife Crime Officers.
