BASC – Tower Bird Trophies

The British Association for Shooting and Conservation offers four national trophies for Gundog Field Trials.

First presented in 1972, the trophies are named in memory of the late Noel M (Tim) Sedgwick, the former Editor in Chief of the Shooting Times and Country Magazine, BASC’s official weekly journal, who wrote under the pseudonym “Tower Bird”.

The trophies are awarded at the end of each Field Trial season to the most successful young Retriever, Spaniel, Hunt, Point and Retriever breed or Pointer and Setter aged three years or under, that has competed in Kennel Club registered Field Trials up to and including 1st February.  Excluded are Championships, Champion Stakes and Restricted Stakes.

The trophies are presented annually at the CLA Game Fair, with replicas for permanent retention and are awarded on the following points system: 8 points for a First  award, 6 points for a Second award, 4 points for a Third award and 2 points for a Fourth award.  Points will be doubled for 24 dog Retriever Stakes.

It is emphasised that the trophies will be awarded to the successful dogs whether or not their owners are members of BASC.

In order to make a claim for one of these prestigious awards, notification of Field Trial season successes, giving Trial name, dates and positions together with name, age, sex and breed of Gundog must be sent to “Tower Bird Trophies” BASC Wales Office, The Station House, Caersws, Powys SY17 5HH by 31st May 2008.
