David’s background is totally rural having grown up in the countryside, spending more time hunting, fishing and shooting than at school. Father and Grandfather were both fish farmers with David destined to follow their lead. For some six years he was employed as a scientific officer for the fisheries division of Highlands & Islands Development Board and then managed the salmon farming business for Lovat Estates near Inverness. Returning to the south west of England, he became regional director for the old British Field Sports Society. In 2001 David joined BASC as Regional Officer and in 2005 took on the role of Regional Director for the newly formed South East Region. He has a firm interest, enjoyment and commitment to all shooting sports with his ability with a rifle taking the lead over the shotgun.

Jane, her husband Paul and three sons Gus, Ollie and Charlie are all BASC members and enjoy all aspects of shooting and countryside pursuits. It was through her sons attending BASC young shots days and Jane helping at our Taste of Game events that she became more closely involved with the region. When not being the backbone of the team she can be found in a local surgery where she is a practice nurse. The family have three Working the dogs (two labradors and a terrier) Jane spends most Saturdays beating during the shooting season whilst Sunday mornings are spent watching the boys play rugby! She is an excellent shot both with rifle and shotgun. Any spare time is taken up looking after and riding two horses.

Jenni grew up on a mixed farm in North Oxfordshire and graduated from Harper Adams University College in June 2006. From a young age Jenni enjoyed a rural upbringing enjoying outdoor activities such as beating at a local shoot and more recently both clay and live quarry shooting. She has always had an interest in rural issues such as wildlife and conservation and her involvement with Young Farmers and her degree course of Countryside and Environmental Management have helped her with these interests and without doubt will help her to be successful in her new role. |
A new independent study has revealed that sporting shooting contributes £250 million a year to the economy of the South East. Sporting shooting also provides 11,000 regional full time equivalent jobs, plays a major role in conserving the countryside and wildlife habitats, and provides healthy free-range meat in the region.
