Head of PE Nick Stebbing plays chef for the day | What would you say if pheasant appeared on your school lunch menu? The pupils at St Peters School in Middleborough had the chance to find out recently when they helped make some pheasant dishes during their after school Cook It Club. Head of PE Mr Stebbing (otherwise known as Gordon Ramsay, but without the swearing) wanted to show the pupils how to make something a bit different and although the first reaction was ‘yuk!’ everyone soon got stuck in helping to prepare the pheasant for a fresh starter and a tasty foresters’ casserole.
The students then all sat down to enjoy the food they had prepared, along with the head teacher who had heard that pheasant was on the menu. For every one of them it was the first time they had tasted pheasant and they all enjoyed it, with lots of requests for more.
You can read more about the Cook It Club and get the recipes on the blog at http://cookitclub.blogspot.com. Why not have a look and try and get something similar running at your own school? It’s a fantastic way to spread the word about eating game. For other recipe ideas you can also visit www.gameson.org.uk.
