BASC is the only shooting association with a dedicated full time Firearms Team.
Bill Harriman and the BASC Firearms Team will demonstrate the development of the firearm – from flintlock to rapid fire – accompanied by some loud bangs and plenty of smoke!
Visitors with young children and nervous dogs should be aware that there will be loud bangs during the Firearms displays.
BASC Midland is pleased to welcome back to the Gamekeepers’ Fair “The Frilly Ghillie”. Heather demonstrates a simulated stalk of a Red deer stag with the help of a volunteer from the audience. The demonstration continues, using a native highland pony to carry the stag off the hill. This method has been used for over 180 years and, in recent years, has almost died out due to the use of quadbikes and argocats. However, it is now becoming more frequently requested on Scottish estates, as shooting clients are preferring to see the ponies on the hill as part of their authentic shooting experience. This is a unique opportunity to see this traditional demonstration in the beautiful surroundings of Catton Park.
Back by popular demand will be the The Ultimate Countryman, Chris Green, demonstrating his superb range of country skills.
Chris has many years experience of tempting the wily “woodie” into shot. He will be demonstrating his techniques and presenting his revolutionary new-style decoys in the main and mini areans. Chris will be on hand at the BASC tent over the two day event and will be happy to talk to anyone who shares his passion for wildfowling!
David will be providing us with a deer carcass/handling demonstration in the main arena.
David is a BASC course provider in DSC Level 1 and 2 courses. He also manufactures stalking equipment to order. He operates in the Castle Donington area with his own deer park.
Author and broadcaster Mr James Mckay will present his Ferret Roadshow demonstration during the fair. As well as giving advice on ferret welfare, James will be talking ferrets twice a day in the main and mini arenas.
These magnificent horses will be showing us what used to happen when we needed heavy objects moving in a special way.
Their staff will be only too happy to meet you before and after their demonstration in the main arena.
Frank will be providing a working gundog demonstration in the main arena.
Frank is a BASC Gundog Adviser, also runs gundog training courses and produces the famous Lintran gundog trailers and equipment.
Presented by the Defence Animal Centre this professional demonstration gives you a fascinating insight into the working of the RAF dogs which is not normally seen by the general public.
This performance will leave you amazed and very much more informed!
The jolliest little band in town, Riverboat Days are a Happy Jazz Dixieland musical duo playing the all time great tunes from the 1920’s/30’s/40’s – very colourful and guaranteed to set “toes-a-tapping”.
