Welcome to the Green Shoots Cheshire project page. Since coming into post in November 2007 the project has gone from strength to strength. Working with our members across the county as well as our partners in the Cheshire region Biodiversity Partnership (CrBP) we’ve been able to undertake some fantastic projects, all of which go a considerable way towards meeting the local biodiversity targets set out in Cheshire’s Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP).

I hope you’ll take the time to read through my latest newsletter, which you’ll be able to access through the link under the Cheshire Newsletter header below. This gives information on just a selection of the projects that are currently underway. The Green Shoots Cheshire Annual Report section of the page below contains electronic copies of my annual reports from 2008 and 2009 which will provide you with a full rundown of the work that we’ve been doing over the past few years. Look out for the 2010 report which will be available from November 2010 onwards.
Green Shoots can provide access through BASC members in Cheshire to 27 per cent of the total land area in the county. This enables trained surveyors to carry out valuable work in the wider countryside and obtain data which was previously unavailable. An example of this is the work being undertaken at the moment on otters. Accessing land by the rivers and watercourses throughout the county is paramount in order to gain valuable information on this nationally important mammal. Through Green Shoots we can get on to BASC members’ land to survey waterways and establish whether or not otters are present.
Should members wish to join Green Shoots Cheshire, or have moved/expanded their shooting grounds, then contact me so I can send out survey booklets and maps. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like any more information about our projects and the ways in which you can get involved.
The Green Shoots Cheshire project works with a wide variety of partners in the CrBP which coordinates and delivers conservation action to help safeguard the region’s most vulnerable wildlife. For more information on the partnership click here or on the icon below.
