Tim Russell joined BASC as its director of conservation in 2000. Tim had previously been an environmental consultant and had also farmed in Cambridgeshire for 20 years.

His areas of expertise include land use and conservation, with particular emphasis on the benefits management of land for shooting provides for biodiversity.

Ian Danby has a degree in Ecology and Environmental Management and has been a freelance ecologist working for local authorities and wildlife trusts, his primary skills being botanical survey and generating management plans.

Ian Danby has a degree in Ecology and Environmental Management and has been a freelance ecologist working for local authorities and wildlife trusts, his primary skills being botanical survey and generating management plans. His last contract before joining BASC in 1999 was with the Nottingham Wildlife Trust’s Environmental Consultancy. Ian took the position of Biodiversity Officer to develop BASC’s Biodiversity Action Plan for shooting called Green Shoots. He is now Head of Biodiversity Projects with three staff working on targeted conservation projects which achieve biodiversity targets in Cheshire, the Somerset Levels and North Wales. These projects are now part of our Green Shoots programme of work.

Ian was introduced to shooting by his father and came to BASC with a keen interest in decoying woodpigeon and rough shooting. He discovered wildfowling when joining BASC and is now a committed wildfowler too. Ian and his wife Jayne are the proud parents of Thomas who is keen to learn about shooting sports.

Janette Lowrie joined BASC as Personal Assistant to the Director of Conservation in 2006.  She is involved in a variety of tasks including production of the wildfowling permit scheme booklet, organising the annual wildfowling conference and minute secretary to the Wildfowling Liaison Committee, Conservation and Land Management Committee and the Wildlife Habitat Trusts.

Mark Greenhough - Wildfowling Officer

Introduction:

Mark first began wildfowling with the Kent Wildfowling and Conservation Association in the late 1990’s. He remained a full and active member of the club until 2005 when he moved to Cheshire to begin working at BASC.

Mark first began wildfowling with the Kent Wildfowling and Conservation Association in the late 1990’s. He remained a full and active member of the club until 2005 when he moved to Cheshire to begin working at BASC. He is currently a full member of the Dee Wildfowling and Wetlands Management club, and an associate member of the Morecambe Bay Wildfowling Association. 

Before becoming BASC's Wildfowling Officer, Mark spent two years working on the BASC Green Shoots project in Cheshire, enlisting the assistance of BASC members in the county to help to contribute to local biodiversity targets. For several years prior to this, he held several posts in the conservation sector, encompassing professional land management and undertaking wildlife surveys, specialising in ornithology.

Alan McCormick is BASC's Head of Deer Management. He is a specialist in deer management with extensive practical experience.

Alan joined BASC from his former post as Training Manager with the British Deer Society and prior to that he ran a forestry, fencing and pest control business.

Alan has 19 years experience of deer management and is a long standing member of BASC.

Paul joined BASC head office as the Rural Land Development Manager in 2009. Paul works closely with BASC affiliated clubs and members to identify opportunities for purchase and lease of land for shooting. He also assists clubs and members in maximising income from the land they own / occupy and other land management issues that arise.

Paul joined BASC head office as the Rural Land Development Manager in 2009. Paul works closely with BASC affiliated clubs and members to identify opportunities for purchase and lease of land for shooting. He also assists clubs and members in maximising income from the land they own / occupy and other land management issues that arise.

Prior to joining BASC Paul has had sixteen years experience as a Rural and General Practice Chartered Surveyor. He has worked within the private sector for both owner occupier and tenant farmers. Scope of work has included: land & property sales, farm subsidies, environmental schemes, agricultural law, letting/ grazing agreements, compulsory purchase schemes, wayleaves & easements, valuations and livestock marketing.

Paul has been involved in shooting since the age of ten, predominately within North West Midlands. In the early years he carried a stick and now he enjoys both shooting and beating on a variety of walked and peg days.

Originally from North Cheshire Ben graduated in 2005 with a first class honours degree in Environmental Conservation from the University of Wales, Bangor where he carried out a joint project with the British Trust for Ornithology on the breeding ecology of Barn owls in the UK.

Originally from North Cheshire Ben graduated in 2005 with a first class honours degree in Environmental Conservation from the University of Wales, Bangor where he carried out a joint project with the British Trust for Ornithology on the breeding ecology of Barn owls in the UK. Prior to working at BASC Ben worked in practical land management working for amongst others a tree surgeon and a fencing contractor.

With a keen interest in all aspects of country life Ben hopes to work alongside the shooting community in Cheshire to help contribute to biodiversity targets ensuring shooting is recognised as a key player in the conservation of the Great British countryside.

Robin had previously spent four years in food industry as a company 'trouble-shooter' and prior to that, 27 years as an Earth Sciences teacher in comprehensive and grammar schools.

After completing a BSc (Hons) degree in Ecology (Forestry) at Edinburgh University and a Masters degree in Forest Recreation at Pennsylvania State University, Audrey has over 20 years experience in countryside management in local and national government, working for local authorities, the Sports Council and the National Forest, and in the charitable sector, working as an Area Manager for the RSPB and as Led Walks Officer for the Ramblers.

In her spare time, she is a keen deer stalker, swims competitively at Masters level and breeds rare breed Hebridean sheep.
