Alan joined BASC from his former post as Training Manager with the British Deer Society and prior to that he ran a forestry, fencing and pest control business.
Alan has 19 years experience of deer management and is a long standing member of BASC.

Lewis joined BASC as the ‘Deer Officer’ in 2011 following completion of his Game and Wildlife Management Diploma at Sparsholt College in Hampshire.

Initially inspired by his father, Lewis is extremely passionate about Deer and has been stalking for many years. He has previously worked for the Forestry Commission which involved managing deer professionally in particularly sensitive areas. He is a keen game shot and also enjoys pigeon shooting and working dogs.

Andrea joined BASC’s deer management department in 2005 and whole heartedly embraced the new subject matter of deer and their management in the UK.
Show full biography and contact detailsAndrea joined BASC’s deer management department in 2005 and whole heartedly embraced the new subject matter of deer and their management in the UK. She administers all BASC stalking schemes, seminars and workshops run by the department and helps with technical enquiries from members. Last year she has completed her DSC 1 and hopes to put it into practice this summer.
She is interested and active in wildlife and conservation issues, has a great love of the countryside, enjoys gardening and anything to do with classical music and the theatre – preferably outdoors!

Colin is a zoology graduate of Glasgow University and has worked for BASC, in a number of roles, since 1984. He has been the Director Scotland since 1994 and is currently a Board Member of the Deer Commission for Scotland and the Heather Trust, as well as a member of SNH’s Scientific Advisory Committee, Scotland’s Moorland Forum, the National Access Forum and the National Goose Management Review Group.
He is an enthusiastic shotgun and rifle shooter, a BASC Shotgun coach and a keen angler, when he finds the time.

Donald Muir is one of the best recognised faces in shooting in Scotland, having been actively involved in wildfowling and all other forms of shooting even well before joining BASC Scotland as our first Development Officer over 10 years ago. In his current role Donald is responsible for all of our varied training delivery, including a wide range of Young Shots courses, all other events such as shows and fairs, as well as the representing BASC Scotland on all the Local Authority committees dealing with wildfowling permit schemes.
Donald is a native of Fife and is also a BASC Shotgun Coach, a Range Conducting Officer and a qualified assessor. His main interests are in wildfowling and deer stalking.

Ian Danby has a degree in Ecology and Environmental Management and has been a freelance ecologist working for local authorities and wildlife trusts, his primary skills being botanical survey and generating management plans.
Show full biography and contact detailsIan Danby has a degree in Ecology and Environmental Management and has been a freelance ecologist working for local authorities and wildlife trusts, his primary skills being botanical survey and generating management plans. His last contract before joining BASC in 1999 was with the Nottingham Wildlife Trust’s Environmental Consultancy. Ian took the position of Biodiversity Officer to develop BASC’s Biodiversity Action Plan for shooting called Green Shoots. He is now Head of Biodiversity Projects with three staff working on targeted conservation projects which achieve biodiversity targets in Cheshire, the Somerset Levels and North Wales. These projects are now part of our Green Shoots programme of work.
Ian was introduced to shooting by his father and came to BASC with a keen interest in decoying woodpigeon and rough shooting. He discovered wildfowling when joining BASC and is now a committed wildfowler too. Ian and his wife Jayne are the proud parents of Thomas who is keen to learn about shooting sports.

Paul joined BASC head office as the Rural Land Development Manager in 2009. Paul works closely with BASC affiliated clubs and members to identify opportunities for purchase and lease of land for shooting. He also assists clubs and members in maximising income from the land they own / occupy and other land management issues that arise.

Paul works closely with BASC affiliated clubs and members to identify opportunities for purchase and lease of land for shooting. He also assists clubs and members in maximising income from the land they own / occupy and other land management issues that arise.
Prior to joining BASC Paul has had sixteen years experience as a Rural and General Practice Chartered Surveyor. He has worked within the private sector for both owner occupier and tenant farmers. Scope of work has included: land & property sales, farm subsidies, environmental schemes, agricultural law, letting/ grazing agreements, compulsory purchase schemes, wayleaves & easements, valuations and livestock marketing.
Paul has been involved in shooting since the age of ten, predominately within North West Midlands. In the early years he carried a stick and now he enjoys both shooting and beating on a variety of walked and peg days.

Tim Russell joined BASC as its director of conservation in 2000. Tim had previously been an environmental consultant and had also farmed in Cambridgeshire for 20 years.
