He is regularly seen on television as part of the team of experts on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow programme.
A former Territorial Army Officer with 18 years service, he is also a forensic scientist dealing with cases involving firearms, ammunition and other weapons. In 1999, he was elected to membership of the prestigious Academy of Experts and has been a member of the forensic Science Society since 2003.

Alan’s service with Merseyside Police’s Criminal Justice Unit makes him the team’s expert on police procedures – especially the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

Before joining BASC in 2004, Matt worked as a gunsmith. He is a keen deer stalker and wildfowler as well as having a strong interest in antique and vintage guns.

His time at the bench allows him to bring practical expertise to solving members’ technical problems. Matt specialises in explosives legislation and has worked closely with the Health and Safety Executive on the Control of Explosives Regulations and other issues.

Mike Eveleigh joined BASC as its senior firearms officer in 1998. Mike has more than 30 years experience as a serving police officer, including time as a firearms enquiry officer and armed police officer.
Show full biography and contact detailsMike Eveleigh joined BASC as its senior firearms officer in 1998. Mike has more than 30 years experience as a serving police officer, including time as a firearms enquiry officer and armed police officer.
He is a member of two rifle and pistol clubs and is also a qualified range conducting officer. Mike has assisted with the compilation of the Home Office Guidance to the Police on firearms law, and the Home Office/ACPO/ BSSC Firearms security handbook.
Mike is an expert in firearms law and police procedure.
