Prior to working at BASC Glynn was a full time gamekeeper for 25 years in East Anglia and Gloucestershire.

He enjoys a wide range of country sports and shooting activities and has a special interest in all forms of gundog work.  He particularly enjoys training and competing with gundogs and is a B panel retriever field trial judge.

Introduction:

Stephen joined BASC’s Game and Gamekeeping department in September 2011. He comes from a game farming back ground, having been brought up on the family game farm.

Stephen joined BASC’s Game and Gamekeeping department in September 2011. He comes from a game farming back ground, having been brought up on the family game farm, which he now runs with his parents. Further to this Stephen studied Countryside management at the University of Wales. He enjoys a wide range of country sports and activities, in particular game shooting and deer stalking.

Introduction:

I studied at Harper Adams University College for a degree in Countryside and Environmental Management. As part of my degree I worked for the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust conducting research on the grouse moors in Northern England and before joining BASC worked for the Environment Agency conducting farm assessments for the Glastir agri-environment scheme.

I enjoy a wide range of country sports in particular rough shooting & wildfowling and I would give dog work as my number one reason for enjoying shooting. I have always lived in the countryside working on farms and on our own smallholding and have a passion for conservation. My other hobbies include rugby and cricket.

Sarah Bann joined the BASC Game and gamekeeping team in July 2007. In the past she has done target shooting and is now keen to further her skills with clay and game shooting. Members of her family are actively involved in shooting and she has introduced her children to the world of clay shooting and conservation.

Alan McCormick is BASC's Head of Deer Management. He is a specialist in deer management with extensive practical experience.

Alan joined BASC from his former post as Training Manager with the British Deer Society and prior to that he ran a forestry, fencing and pest control business.

Alan has 19 years experience of deer management and is a long standing member of BASC.

Ian Danby has a degree in Ecology and Environmental Management and has been a freelance ecologist working for local authorities and wildlife trusts, his primary skills being botanical survey and generating management plans.

Ian Danby has a degree in Ecology and Environmental Management and has been a freelance ecologist working for local authorities and wildlife trusts, his primary skills being botanical survey and generating management plans. His last contract before joining BASC in 1999 was with the Nottingham Wildlife Trust’s Environmental Consultancy. Ian took the position of Biodiversity Officer to develop BASC’s Biodiversity Action Plan for shooting called Green Shoots. He is now Head of Biodiversity Projects with three staff working on targeted conservation projects which achieve biodiversity targets in Cheshire, the Somerset Levels and North Wales. These projects are now part of our Green Shoots programme of work.

Ian was introduced to shooting by his father and came to BASC with a keen interest in decoying woodpigeon and rough shooting. He discovered wildfowling when joining BASC and is now a committed wildfowler too. Ian and his wife Jayne are the proud parents of Thomas who is keen to learn about shooting sports.

Paul joined BASC head office as the Rural Land Development Manager in 2009. Paul works closely with BASC affiliated clubs and members to identify opportunities for purchase and lease of land for shooting. He also assists clubs and members in maximising income from the land they own / occupy and other land management issues that arise.

Paul joined BASC head office as the Rural Land Development Manager in 2009. Paul works closely with BASC affiliated clubs and members to identify opportunities for purchase and lease of land for shooting. He also assists clubs and members in maximising income from the land they own / occupy and other land management issues that arise.

Prior to joining BASC Paul has had sixteen years experience as a Rural and General Practice Chartered Surveyor. He has worked within the private sector for both owner occupier and tenant farmers. Scope of work has included: land & property sales, farm subsidies, environmental schemes, agricultural law, letting/ grazing agreements, compulsory purchase schemes, wayleaves & easements, valuations and livestock marketing.

Paul has been involved in shooting since the age of ten, predominately within North West Midlands. In the early years he carried a stick and now he enjoys both shooting and beating on a variety of walked and peg days.

Steve Bloomfield - Regional Director (Midlands)

Joining BASC in 2008. Steve has an extensive background in gamekeeping (at Bretby and Audley End) and in sales as an Area Sales Agent for Barbour. Steve is a keen game shot and stalker.

Steve Bloomfield is the Director for the Midland region.  He grew up in rural Hampshire spending many hours ferreting and shooting and learning his field craft ‘hunting for the pot’.

Leaving school at 16 to become a trainee gamekeeper and following a diploma course at the Hampshire College of Agriculture in Game and Deer Management, Steve rose through the ranks of gamekeeping most recently as head keeper on the Bretby Park Estate, Derbyshire.

From his experience over the last 30 years, Steve is passionate about high standards both in game management and animal welfare and is active in introducing youngsters to shooting sports and keepering.

A keen deer stalker, game shot and picker-up on local shoots.

Tim Russell joined BASC as its director of conservation in 2000. Tim had previously been an environmental consultant and had also farmed in Cambridgeshire for 20 years.

His areas of expertise include land use and conservation, with particular emphasis on the benefits management of land for shooting provides for biodiversity.
