BASC & Chudleys Scurry League

Chudleys Banner 2011

Once again BASC, in conjunction with Chudleys, will be running the BASC Chudleys Scurry League. In its inaugural year the league ran over 100 individual scurries attracting thousands of entrants and this year BASC aims to build on that success. A total of 10 venues have been selected to host this year’s league events which will each run a variety of different individual scurries including favourites such as the long retrieve, the obstacle and pick & mix.

The scurries are fair and open to all gundog breeds and recognised crosses of those breeds.  Points can be gained for the league by finishing in the top three for each scurry and are awarded as follows:

1st – 30 points
2nd – 20 points
3rd – 10 points

The league table will be updated regularly and can be found here. Full rules for the scurry league can be found here.

The remaining scurry events for 2012 will be held at the following game fairs:

  • 24/25 March Kent Game Fair - Kent Showground Detling
  • 14/15 April   BASC Gamekeepers Fair - Catton Park
  • 6/7 May       Suffolk Game and Country Fair - Glemham
  • 6/7 May       Falconry Fair - Althorp House ***Cancelled***

At the end of the summer the handler and dog at the top of the league will be crowned the Champion and winner of the BASC Chudleys Scurry League Trophy for 2012. In addition to this the top four of the league will win unique personalised trophies together with Chudleys dog food and waterproof clothing.

In addition to the main prizes, everyone else who gains points for the league will be entered into a prize draw where there will be a chance to win some great prizes. In 2011 Claire Bithrey was the winner of the top prize of a remote lite launcher but with just 10 points she was joint 119th in the league.

The first scurry league event for 2012 was held at The West Country Game Fair on March 10 and 11 which saw Ian Brothers and Ollie his golden retriever take an early lead in the league. However, with thousands of points still available over the summer and all across the country there will be ample opportunity to gain points and to become the BASC Chudleys Scurry League Champion 2012.
