The BASC Shotgun Coach Award will enable you to offer a service of practical shooting advice and tuition to members and non-members alike.
BASC realises that there is a demand for a formal training scheme for teachers of shotgun shooting both for those who wish to appear as BASC coaches at shows and events and others who want to obtain the award purely for their own benefit.
A section of the Award is a module of a City & Guilds recognised certificate in training and development. Once gained, the L12 Coaching Award will stay with you indefinitely, BASC Shotgun Coaches are required to re-accredit every 3 years by assessment.
The award is not a course, but individual training with your chosen mentor, and completion of successful assessments.
Mentors have their own facilities and their pricing structure will depend on their circumstances. The contract and costs for this part of the training are between your chosen Mentor and yourself.
Once you start your training you will need to register with BASC at a cost of £125. This includes all of the award administration costs, a coaching manual which will also be available online and a CRB check.
The Mentor will train you to the standard required to become a BASC Shotgun Coach and once an awareness of the requirement is reached your Mentor will recommend you for the pre-assessment day.
This and subsequent stages are only open to BASC members, therefore, if you have not already joined by this stage you will need to do so before being accepted on the pre-assessment day. You will be expected to cover your own expenses but BASC make no charge for this day.
A BASC Assessor will then observe your coaching ability at live events. The award requires that you attend up to a maximum of 6 six live events for assessment but once you pass three assessments consecutively, you do not need to do any more. (You will be required to cover your own expenses when attending the live events.)
The City & Guilds involvement in the Shotgun Coach Award is the Unit L12 – Enable Individual Learning Through Coaching, this is a part of the City & Guilds 7318 Certificate. The registration fee at present is £125.
