Mark first began wildfowling with the Kent Wildfowling and Conservation Association in the late 1990’s. He remained a full and active member of the club until 2005 when he moved to Cheshire to begin working at BASC.

Mark first began wildfowling with the Kent Wildfowling and Conservation Association in the late 1990’s. He remained a full and active member of the club until 2005 when he moved to Cheshire to begin working at BASC. He is currently a full member of the Dee Wildfowling and Wetlands Management club, and an associate member of the Morecambe Bay Wildfowling Association.

Before becoming BASC's Wildfowling Officer, Mark spent two years working on the BASC Green Shoots project in Cheshire, enlisting the assistance of BASC members in the county to help to contribute to local biodiversity targets. For several years prior to this, he held several posts in the conservation sector, encompassing professional land management and undertaking wildlife surveys, specialising in ornithology.

As the Secretarial Assistant to the team, Lis finds herself doing a great variety of tasks to support the wildfowling club members including the annual challenge of the bag returns, assisting with management plans for club lease and consent renewals on the Crown foreshore, GIS mapping and duck ringing.

As the Secretarial Assistant to the team, Lis finds herself doing a great variety of tasks to support the wildfowling club members including the annual challenge of the bag returns, assisting with management plans for club lease and consent renewals on the Crown foreshore, GIS mapping and duck ringing. Recently, she has also been getting involved with administrative support for the Wildlife Habitat Trust. There’s never a dull moment in Wildfowling!

Donald Muir is one of the best recognised faces in shooting in Scotland, having been actively involved in wildfowling and all other forms of shooting even well before joining BASC Scotland as our first Development Officer over 10 years ago.  In his current role Donald is responsible for all of our varied training delivery, including a wide range of Young Shots courses, all other events such as shows and fairs, as well as the representing BASC Scotland on all the Local Authority committees dealing with wildfowling permit schemes. 

Donald is a native of Fife and is also a BASC Shotgun Coach, a Range Conducting Officer and a qualified assessor.  His main interests are in wildfowling and deer stalking.

Introduction:

Arriving at WAGBI in 1978 with a degree in Wildlife management and PhD in small mammal ecology, specifically rat control by anticoagulants, both from Edinburgh University, John took on the relatively small research needs of the association at the time.

Arriving at WAGBI in 1978 with a degree in Wildlife management and PhD in small mammal ecology, specifically rat control by anticoagulants, both from Edinburgh University, John took on the relatively small research needs of the association at the time.

Since then they have grown considerably to encompass a wide range of technical aspects necessary to support BASC from local to international level. He fishes and shoots (in that order).

Introduction:

Paul joined BASC head office as the Rural Land Development Manager in 2009. Paul works closely with BASC affiliated clubs and members to identify opportunities for purchase and lease of land for shooting. He also assists clubs and members in maximising income from the land they own / occupy and other land management issues that arise.

Paul joined BASC head office as the Rural Land Development Manager in 2009. Prior to joining BASC Paul has had sixteen years experience as a Rural and General Practice Chartered Surveyor. He has worked within the private sector for both owner occupier and tenant farmers. Scope of work has included: land & property sales, farm subsidies, environmental schemes, agricultural law, letting/ grazing agreements, compulsory purchase schemes, wayleaves & easements, valuations and livestock marketing.

Paul has been involved in shooting since the age of ten, predominately within North West Midlands. In the early years he carried a stick and now he enjoys both shooting and beating on a variety of walked and peg days.

Tim Russell joined BASC as its director of conservation in 2000. Tim had previously been an environmental consultant and had also farmed in Cambridgeshire for 20 years.

His areas of expertise include land use and conservation, with particular emphasis on the benefits management of land for shooting provides for biodiversity.

Dennise joined BASC in December 1998, moving to the Conservation team in 1999 to assist with the Crown Estate lease programme and has remained in the position for the last 10+ years.

Dennise joined BASC in December 1998, moving to the Conservation team in 1999 to assist with the Crown Estate lease programme and has remained in the position for the last 10+ years.  Dennise assists wildfowling clubs with applications or renewals of sporting rights leases on foreshore owned by The Crown Estate, and ensuring that associated consents from the statutory government conservation agencies are secured.  Dennise also represents BASC on the Joint Group for Wildfowling and Conservation on Tidal Land (the group that oversees management of Crown Estate foreshore leases); and helps coordinate BASC representation on estuary management groups.
