Suggested lead shot rules

DEFRA is likely to undertake a compliance study into the use of non-lead shot, sometime in the not too distant future. BASC’s Wildfowl Liaison Committee (WLC) therefore is recommending that clubs consider adopting a rule forbidding members possessing lead shot while out wildfowling if they do not have such a rule already. The versions below are suggested examples that clubs could adopt or adapt to fit local circumstances.

1) It is a condition of membership that members must not be in possession of lead shot cartridges when shooting wildfowl over wetlands or on other club grounds and they must allow their cartridges to be examined if requested by any other club member. Failure to comply with this ruling may result in disciplinary action up to and including expulsion.

2) Members must not carry or be in possession of lead shot cartridges on all areas of foreshore, and sites of special scientific interest, owned or controlled by.......... Any member must allow their cartridges to be examined if requested by any other club member to ensure that only non lead shot is being used or carried.
