  1. Gundog Training Course - Midland Region 2012

    Following the success of this year’s course, we will be running further training days in 2012. The course will be made up of six individual days and will cover beating and picking-up, and also working tests. The introductory day in March will be open to any breed of gundog from the age of eight months and will cover all aspects of gundog work. Suitable for either novice handlers or experienced handlers with a novice dog, this day will consist of a lecture, demonstration and practical work.

    Local game shot & fisherman, Ralph Skripek is renowned within The Midlands for his game hunting & cooking skills. Working closely with university students, and demonstrating game cookery at County Shows and on local radio. Ralph supports the ethics of The BASC Taste of Game Campaign and promotes the game season through his bistro 'The Butler's Pantry' in Mickleover, Derby.

    This year our stand at the Midland Game Fair attracted the usual constant flow of visitors. BASC regular Chris Green, the Cornish Countryman, built a superb wildfowling display that included cartridge re-loading by Nick Powell of the Dyfi, Mawddach and District Wildfowling Association. Chris and James Green were also on hand to talk to visitors. Gun makers G. Perry had a wonderful display of vintage and modern shotguns and Willo Game supported the gamekeeping area.

    16 individuals took the opportunity of our day of private tuition in clay shooting and fly fishing on 1st October at the beautiful grounds of Lakeside Sporting Fisheries, near Loughborough, Leicestershire.

    BASC sponsored a novice retriever trial in Leicestershire on 16 September. As well as underlining our commitment to support our gundog clubs this enables us to thank our hard-working volunteers by inviting them to shoot on the day. Regional director Steve Bloomfield picked the team from volunteers who give up their free time year after year to work at game fairs and other events that BASC would find hard to staff without their help. The team shot well for a strong field of dogs.

    Strong winds did not deter our ladies who battled on undaunted at Cockett Farm Shooting Ground, Nottingham in September. The excellent facilities and choice of targets at the ground made for a successful and thoroughly enjoyable day. Many thanks to all.
