Introduction to Deer Stalking

The level of interest from people who would like to take up deer stalking has increased dramatically and therefore the BASC Northern Region has established their ‘Introduction to Deer Stalking Day’ to be able to meet this demand.
This day is aimed at anyone who is interested in finding out more about the activity of deer stalking and deer management.
The day is open to adults and accompanied young people (under 16s’).

The day will consist of lectures, practical demonstrations and field work and cover the following topics:

• Introduction to Deer Management (Why we Manage Deer)
• Deer Law & Legislation
• Firearms Law & Legislation
• Deer Species & Biology
• Equipment & Techniques
• Basic Carcass Handling & Meat Hygiene
• Firearms & Their Use

The aim is to provide as much practical field time as possible with plenty of ‘hands on’ opportunities.
All equipment is provided along with light refreshments, (tea, coffee & biscuits), as well as all the relevant information sheets from the day.

The course tutors are all experienced deer managers and deer management instructors from BASC & the Forestry Commission.

Our aim is to provide an informal, relaxed and interesting look at all aspects of relevance to the potential deer stalker.

To book a place please complete the application form and send the appropriate fee with the booking form to: Steve Woodhall, BASC Northern Region, PO Box 19, Milnthorpe, Cumbria. LA7 7WZ.
