Fife Partnership Against Wildlife Crime seminar at Fife Constabulary Headquarters

Fife Partnership Against Wildlife Crime are extending an invitation to land-owners, farmers, gamekeepers and field sports enthusiasts from across the Kingdom to attend a seminar to be held at Fife Constabulary Headquarters on the evening of Thursday 31st May, 2012, 7pm-9pm. Among the topics to be discussed are badgers, humane dispatch of injured animals and organised crime in the rural environment.

Spokesman for the group PC Ian Laing, who is Wildlife and Environmental Crime Co-ordinator for Fife stated “Farmers themselves have come to us asking for advice on how best to perform farming operations when a badger sett is spreading into a field and avoid falling foul of the law. We want to address that need. We are also conscious that in our rural environment, when a wild animal is injured in an accident with a car, it may have to endure protracted suffering before it can be humanely dealt with. We think that suffering can be shortened by harnessing the assistance of the rural community. We are also aware of the links between serious and organised crime and wildlife crime, with those involved in metal theft, fuel oil theft and bogus workman type offences, also being involved in poaching and coursing our wild animals. We know this is a problem for the whole community and the people attending this meeting could be key to reducing these offences. This evening will open the channels of communication for that process.

I would invite anyone who is interested in attending to telephone or e-mail me to book one or more places on 0845 600 5702 or ian.laing@fife.pnn.police.uk"
