South East - Youngshots

Introductory days are a full day of varied activities and will usually commence at 9.30am, finishing at 4.00pm. These events are structured for those of you between the ages of 8 and 17 inclusive who have just started shooting, or who are about to take up the sport, and are aimed at teaching safe and responsible shooting and demonstrating its place in the countryside. Places are limited so early booking is advised. If you would like to bring a friend, we would be delighted provided they are booked in and we have their details, they do not need to be BASC members.

You can expect to learn about such things as safe gun handling and the law relating to shotguns and air rifles. You will be given practical tuition in using shotguns and the opportunity to hit some clay pigeons, similarly you will be able to use under tuition state of the art air rifles firing at knockover field targets.

The cost of activity days includes all tuition, clays, cartridges, use of guns, etc. You may bring your own gun with you if you wish, but please do not bring cartridges.

For those Young Shots' who would like to further their knowledge, skills and experience we also offer a number of progression opportunities.

Our progression days concentrate on one subject to give you more in-depth tuition in a particular field of shooting sports, examples of days which we run include:

  • Shotgun shooting; classroom and practical sessions on clay pigeons to develop safe gun handling, improve technique and develop skills
  • Deer management; a day looking at professional deer management from deer ecology, management techniques, equipment to deer in the food chain
  • Conservation days; build an understanding of the practical conservation benefits of shooting sports and shoot management
  • Wildfowling; learn about water fowl ecology, wildfowling, safety on the marsh, decoying and experience a morning flight

The cost of days is dependant on the duration and content of the course and equipment required. Some days are only open to members or may require prior attendance at an introductory day or proof of expereince, further details we be provided in event adverts.

Progression days are subject to availability, places are limited and so it is advisable to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
