BASC Wales was established in January 1999 as a country section of BASC by splitting the then Wales and West Midlands Region. With BASC Scotland and BASC Northern Ireland already in place, it was appropriate that in the year of devolution and the creation of a National Assembly for Wales, BASC should recognise the political and cultural differences between England and Wales. By doing so, BASC now better represents our membership and better promotes the objectives of the Association in Wales.
BASC Wales aims to provide a public voice for shooting and conservation in Wales with cross party support in the Welsh Assembly Government. To campaign on the issues affecting shooting and conservation in Wales through balanced coverage in the Welsh media. To defend the freedom of private firearms ownership, promote healthy quarry populations and habitats and encourage access to shooting in Wales. To raise standards and provide expert advice.

Show full biography and contact detailsMeurig Rees is the BASC Wales Country Officer.
A fluent Welsh speaker, Meurig was born and raised in Ceredigion, West Wales. From a farming background dating back to his grandparents, through to his late father who was a farm manager for a local estate and today with family still farming in the area, Meurig really has his roots firmly in the rural community.
After leaving Cardigan Seconday School, Meurig spent eleven years as a bricklayer and stonemason until he joined the MOD Fire Service. This provided an opportunity to spend time at many of the MOD establishments within Wales, England and Scotland and he remained within the MOD until joining BASC in April 2005.
Meurig has been involved in all aspects of shooting sports for over 35 years. He is currently a member of a local duck and pheasant syndicate and is an experienced clay target shooter, gaining numerous County and International honours and has served as an Executive Committee Member of the Welsh Clay Target Shooting Association and was the WCTSA County Coordinator for Dyfed. As a member of the county team Meurig helped Dyfed to be the Welsh inter-county champions on many occasions. He was also team manager to the Welsh International Team for a number of years.
Having owned and trained spaniels most of his life he has just trained his first Labrador. Ceri has already been a great attraction at various BASC events in Wales during 2008 as part of the gundog display team and she has just finished her first season picking up at a number of local shoots.
Meurig’s real passion is providing a valuable fox control service to farmers in West Wales, with a rifle during both day and night time hours, and has accounted for thousands of foxes over the last twenty five years.

Wildfowlers and other coastline users can now report any suspicious, out of place or strange activity through a new initiative by our four police forces called ‘Coast Watch Wales’. It is designed to enhance the security of the Welsh coast line and identify vessels and individuals engaged in suspicious maritime and coastal based activity.
Such activity could be linked to smuggling, organised crime and terrorist activity.
Coast Watch Wales has provided a confidential central phone number, Web-site and e-mail facility that enables the general public to report suspicious maritime and coastal activity twenty four hours a day without providing your details. All reports will then be investigated by the Coast Watch Team.
Wildfowling clubs and their members around the coast of Wales are encouraged to report any suspicious activity they see while participating in their sport.
You can telephone anonymously on 0800 555 111 or 999 in an emergency.
Help them to ensure the Welsh coast line and the communities of Wales are safe and secure.
