Prolonged severe weather can have an impact on shooting. Waterfowl are vulnerable when their habitat freezes. Good body condition is vital for surviving the winter and successful breeding in the spring. In order to help them through severe weather BASC, working with other organisations and statutory agencies, has helped to set up a system of rules for managing waterfowl shooting during such periods. This can include calls for voluntary restraint followed by legal suspensions of shooting. To find out more, watch this film.
