He is regularly seen on television as part of the team of experts on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow programme.
A former Territorial Army Officer with 18 years service, he is also a forensic scientist dealing with cases involving firearms, ammunition and other weapons. In 1999, he was elected to membership of the prestigious Academy of Experts and has been a member of the forensic Science Society since 2003.

Conor joined BASC in 2003, spending several years successfully negotiating wildfowling leases and consents in England, Wales and Northern Ireland before expanding his role as Policy Development Manager.

He specifically represents shooting interests related to the Marine and Coastal Access Act and any proposals affecting the open general licences for pest birds.
Conor is secretary of Dee Wildfowlers and a committee member of Rossett & Gresford Flyfishers. He qualified as a Zoologist in Ireland in 1996 and began work on a game-keeping and habitat restoration project to save the Irish grey partridge from extinction, for which his research was awarded a PhD. He takes a keen interest in that project to this day, the last Irish population having recovered twenty fold, from a low of 22 birds.

Arriving at WAGBI in 1978 with a degree in Wildlife management and PhD in small mammal ecology, specifically rat control by anticoagulants, both from Edinburgh University, John took on the relatively small research needs of the association at the time.

Mark first began wildfowling with the Kent Wildfowling and Conservation Association in the late 1990’s. He remained a full and active member of the club until 2005 when he moved to Cheshire to begin working at BASC.

He is currently a full member of the Dee Wildfowling and Wetlands Management club, and an associate member of the Morecambe Bay Wildfowling Association.
Before becoming BASC's Wildfowling Officer, Mark spent two years working on the BASC Green Shoots project in Cheshire, enlisting the assistance of BASC members in the county to help to contribute to local biodiversity targets. For several years prior to this, he held several posts in the conservation sector, encompassing professional land management and undertaking wildlife surveys, specialising in ornithology.

He is a member of two rifle and pistol clubs and is also a qualified range conducting officer. Mike has assisted with the compilation of the Home Office Guidance to the Police on firearms law, and the Home Office/ACPO/ BSSC Firearms security handbook.
Mike is an expert in firearms law and police procedure.

Paul joined BASC head office as the Rural Land Development Manager in 2009. Paul works closely with BASC affiliated clubs and members to identify opportunities for purchase and lease of land for shooting. He also assists clubs and members in maximising income from the land they own / occupy and other land management issues that arise.

Prior to joining BASC Paul has had sixteen years experience as a Rural and General Practice Chartered Surveyor. He has worked within the private sector for both owner occupier and tenant farmers. Scope of work has included: land & property sales, farm subsidies, environmental schemes, agricultural law, letting/ grazing agreements, compulsory purchase schemes, wayleaves & easements, valuations and livestock marketing.
Paul has been involved in shooting since the age of ten, predominately within North West Midlands. In the early years he carried a stick and now he enjoys both shooting and beating on a variety of walked and peg days.

Tom joined BASC as the Game and Gamekeeping Officer in 2007, subsequently taking on the head of department role in 2008 looking to build on the foundations of the past, to ensure a sustainable future for game shooting and game management. Away from the office, Tom enjoys all areas of live quarry shooting and is a keen fly fisherman.

Ian Danby has a degree in Ecology and Environmental Management and has been a freelance ecologist working for local authorities and wildlife trusts, his primary skills being botanical survey and generating management plans.

His last contract before joining BASC in 1999 was with the Nottingham Wildlife Trust’s Environmental Consultancy. Ian took the position of Biodiversity Officer to develop BASC’s Biodiversity Action Plan for shooting called Green Shoots. He is now Head of Biodiversity Projects with three staff working on targeted conservation projects which achieve biodiversity targets in Cheshire, the Somerset Levels and North Wales. These projects are now part of our Green Shoots programme of work.
Ian was introduced to shooting by his father and came to BASC with a keen interest in decoying woodpigeon and rough shooting. He discovered wildfowling when joining BASC and is now a committed wildfowler too. Ian and his wife Jayne are the proud parents of Thomas who is keen to learn about shooting sports.

Alex joined the conservation team in 2006 and has been running the Green Shoots in North Wales project since then.

The aim of Green Shoots is to engage BASC members with the BAP (Biodiversity Action Plan) Process. Projects have ranged from large scale connectivity work, which help dampen the effects of climate change to species projects such as finding and verifying locally rare species such as pine martens and dormice and consequently help them to thrive.
Prior to working for the BASC, Alex gained a B.Sc. in Zoology and a M.Sc. in Wildlife Biology and Conservation. Alex has spent time working in South Africa and New Zealand on wildlife reserves helping to manage their complex ecosystems. On returning to the UK he carried out some work for FWAG Cymru (Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group) writing individual farm biodiversity reports. Following this Alex worked for the Central Science Laboratory carrying out mammal surveys on farmland.

Originally from North Cheshire Ben graduated in 2005 with a first class honours degree in Environmental Conservation from the University of Wales, Bangor where he carried out a joint project with the British Trust for Ornithology on the breeding ecology of Barn owls in the UK.

Prior to working at BASC Ben worked in practical land management working for amongst others a tree surgeon and a fencing contractor.
With a keen interest in all aspects of country life Ben hopes to work alongside the shooting community in Cheshire to help contribute to biodiversity targets ensuring shooting is recognised as a key player in the conservation of the Great British countryside.

From a farming background dating back to his grandparents, through to his late father who was a farm manager for a local estate and today with family still farming in the area, Meurig really has his roots firmly in the rural community.
After leaving Cardigan Seconday School, Meurig spent eleven years as a bricklayer and stonemason until he joined the MOD Fire Service. This provided an opportunity to spend time at many of the MOD establishments within Wales, England and Scotland and he remained within the MOD until joining BASC in April 2005.
Meurig has been involved in all aspects of shooting sports for over 35 years. He is currently a member of a local duck and pheasant syndicate and is an experienced clay target shooter, gaining numerous County and International honours and has served as an Executive Committee Member of the Welsh Clay Target Shooting Association and was the WCTSA County Coordinator for Dyfed. As a member of the county team Meurig helped Dyfed to be the Welsh inter-county champions on many occasions. He was also team manager to the Welsh International Team for a number of years.
Having owned and trained spaniels most of his life he has just trained his first Labrador. Ceri has already been a great attraction at various BASC events in Wales during 2008 as part of the gundog display team and she has just finished her first season picking up at a number of local shoots.
Meurig’s real passion is providing a valuable fox control service to farmers in West Wales, with a rifle during both day and night time hours, and has accounted for thousands of foxes over the last twenty five years.

Nicolle is a law graduate from the University of Dundee and has considerable experience in administration and personel management. Her speciality is environmental issues but she is keen to engage in all aspects of policy and politics that keep BASC Scotland busy.

David Knowles has been the regional director for the south of England since 2003. He had previously been a BASC regional officer.

Steve has been involved with shooting and country sports for most of his life and particularly enjoys deer stalking and wildfowling, as well as working gundogs. Steve is an assessor for the Wild Deer Management Qualifications. He is enthusiastic towards providing opportunities for young people and newcomers to become involved in shooting sports.
