BASC Northern Ireland lobby for equal rights for its Young Shots

Young people in Northern Ireland should be able to take up clay shooting at the same age as children living in the rest of the UK according to the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).

Currently youngsters in Northern Ireland have to wait until they are at 18 before they can try clay shooting which is why BASC Northern Ireland recently organised for 23 youngsters to attend a country sports activity day at Wigtown in Scotland where they could try shooting.

BASC’s director for Northern Ireland, Roger Pollen, said: “We organised this trip to highlight the fact that kids from Northern Ireland have to travel to Scotland if they want to try clay shooting, which is an Olympic sport. We feel our youngsters should have the same opportunities as youngsters in other parts of the UK which is why will we continue to lobby government to get the age limit reduced in line with the rest of the UK.”

The activity day was hosted and sponsored by the Wigtown Bay Wildfowling Club with the support of BASC Scotland.
