BASC offers deer trophy preparation and hide tanning instruction day

Modern and traditional methods of tanning deer hides will be compared during a trophy preparation and hide tanning instruction day in Cumbria organised by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).

The event will take place on Saturday 27th March 2010 at Dallam Tower Estate near Milnthorpe.

The day will give delegates hands on experience of how to prepare deer trophies for mounting and what is involved in the tanning process. The instructors will use up-to-date techniques and products but will demonstrate how traditional techniques are still relevant and how they can be used just as effectively as modern techniques.

All the equipment that is required for the day will be provided and delegates can bring along cleaned deer heads for inspection and discussion. The day will involve short presentations and detailed demonstrations and discussion as well as a look at some of the equipment and products that are available.

The day, which costs £50 per person, will start at 9.30am and is open to all. Places are limited so bookings must be made in advance. Contact Steve Woodhall at steven.woodhall@basc.org.uk or 01539 564400 for more information and to reserve places. ENDS
